In a time where athletes are being recognized for their work on and off the field, Ken Griffey Jr. is getting his time to shine 10 years after retiring from baseball.
The Kid has been more relevant than ever as sports enthusiasts take a stroll down memory lane with some of the biggest athletes during the 90s. The Nike Air Griffey Max debuted in 1996, and 24 years later, it’s been announced that another iteration of the iconic sneaker will be available to the masses.
However, this won’t be the first time that Nike is bringing back the Air Griffey Max. When Jr. was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016, the Swoosh company released a limited edition OG colorways in honor of the accomplishment.
The OG colorways Air Max came in a black-and-white colorway with subtle hints of the Mariners primary colors. The soles, however, carried artwork that made the sneaker complete. A teal flame transitioned into a white baseball as the seams of the ball come together.
Details of the upcoming Air Griffey Max 1 ‘Freshwater’ are sparse, other than the exclusive sneaker will be released in Spring 2021.
