Colin Kaepernick is more prominent than ever. It’s been over three years since Kaepernick last took the field in competitive play, but Nike just hit a historic milestone with its latest Kaepernick jersey.
Nike released the ‘True to 7’ Kaepernick jersey on Sept. 11 for $150 USD through the SNKRS app and sold out in under a minute. Resellers immediately posted the jersey on eBay with a resell price starting over $400 to $1,400 USD.
The black monochromatic jersey is the second instalment between Kaepernick and Nike’s collaboration. The Super Bowl winner’s former number is stitched into the front of the jersey while an illustration of him on the left side of the bottom hem with Nike’s logo right beside it.
“The Colin Kaepernick Icon Jersey 2.0 marks Nike’s continued product collaboration with Colin and celebrates those making a positive impact in their community through sport and education. This celebration is represented in the meaning behind the line, True to 7.” Nike commented in a press release.
The Black Lives Matter movement has taken on a stronger presence and made him one of the faces in this new wave. Four years removed since he first took a knee during the national anthem at a San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers game, Nike is commemorating what he has done since then.
Each sport is now embracing players kneeling during the national anthem — something the former quarterback was ostracized for.
