I’m Christina Burkenroad And These Are My Mornings.

Christina Burkenroad

A true example of overcoming and tenacity. Christina Burkenroad has had to navigate difficult times throughout her life.

However, her goal has been clear since childhood: to be a professional footballer.

With a journey already of international stature, today she lives her dream in Rayadas de Monterrey, one of the best teams in the Liga MX Femenil, where she competes every day to be the best version of her, and to achieve the long-awaited league title.

In a special talk for KRIMY, Christina Burkenroad tells us about her everyday life, especially her “mornings”.

My Mornings…

What makes you get up in the morning?

Well, knowing I get to do something I love every day makes it easier to get up and go in the morning. I love the fact that I get to go start my day on a soccer field first thing in the morning. And it helps that I have some great friends on my team!

What does the perfect morning look like for you?

I have two perfect mornings. One is pretty much my routine right now which is wake up, eat a nice breakfast and then go out to the soccer field and play around with good friends.

My second perfect morning is waking up to the sound of waves on the beach, eating a nice breakfast with my girlfriend and then going out to the ocean to swim and tan on the beach.

How do you select what you will wear that day?

Most of the time I’m just wearing some Nike clothes after training just hanging around my apartment. Depending on what I’m doing that day though if I’m going to dinner I’ll throw on some jeans and a nice jacket.

Are you a coffee drinker and if so, what is your drink of choice?

YES, I totally am a coffee drinker. I usually just drink my coffee black and I’ll order a cold brew. But If I’m feeling like spoiling myself that day, I’ll order a latte with almond milk.

How do you spend your free time?

I try to stay busy but I also rest a lot because it’s important I stay ready for training and upcoming games.

I like to go to coffee shops and sit on my laptop or read. I like to cook. I play with my dog a lot and call my friends back in United States. I do a lot of random things. Haha!

What was/is the motivation that has put you on the path that you’re on?

I’ve known since I was a little girl that soccer was what I wanted to do in life. I always told my teachers in elementary school that when I grew up I was going to be a professional soccer player.

I think just sticking to my dreams and believing in my potential has really been the biggest motivator for me. It still is! I feel like I still have so much potential left to uncover mentally and physically.

When things get overwhelming, how do you handle it?

I actually have a bad habit of keeping things inside but it’s something I’ve been working on this past year. It’s important for me to talk to people and express exactly how I’m feeling to try to figure out a solution for whatever I’m going through!

At what moment did it click for you that this is what you wanted to do in life?

Honestly since I was a little girl I just knew that soccer was what I wanted to do. Having a ball at my feet gave me confidence like nothing else did.

What has been one of your most memorable experiences in your career, thus far?

Wow, that’s a tough question because I’ve had so many unbelievable experiences but I would have to say one of the top memories is scoring a goal in Champions League to help our team advance.

If you weren’t a footballer, what would you do?

I would hopefully be a photographer or a professional swimmer.

What is something that you have to accomplish?

One of my life goals is to write a book!

Any last words?

My dog is named Pepino. He’s a chihuahua and he says hi!
